A wonderful windfall: An intimate look at the ‘younger sister’ in England of St. Stephen’s mosaic
We were delighted to receive this video out of the blue, made to enable St. Chad’s C of E Church (Kirkby, UK) Heritage Open Day while in lockdown. We’re especially pleased that the community appreciates its mosaic so much. So, with their permission, we share the video and their mosaic to join in the pleasure.
You get terrific closeup views of the surface. I don’t know who designed the surrounding imagery if not Holiday. The church also has Holiday stained glass windows, the earliest dating, according to Wikipedia, to 1871 (the date of the current building), nine years before ours.
Father Jeremy since discovered our mosaic is earlier than theirs, so we’ve begun sharing what we know. A lovely bridge across the foam to have in place. So glad for the possibilities of cyberspace!
Enjoy—
